Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has inaugurated the rehabilitated 32.7-kilometer Alape Junction – Araromi Seaside Road in Ilaje Local Government Area.
The project, executed by the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), marks a major step in the government’s plan to enhance infrastructure in riverine communities, particularly those in oil-producing areas.
Aiyedatiwa emphasized his administration’s commitment to alleviating the long-standing infrastructural challenges faced by these communities, highlighting the impact of the new road on the daily lives of residents. “Our aim is to improve essential facilities like roads, electricity, clean water, land reclamation, and shoreline protection, all directed at making life more bearable for our people in these regions,” he stated. “Today, it is evident that this road is positively impacting the lives of the people as envisioned by our administration.”
He further detailed other notable projects underway in Ilaje and Ese-Odo, such as the 1,000-meter concrete walkway with jetties at Obe Nla, the 28.5km Aboto–Atijere Road, a mini water treatment scheme at Molutehin, and the establishment of the School of Maritime Transport and Logistics at OAUSTECH in Ugbonla. Upcoming projects include the 4.72km Ugbonla–Erunna Road with a bridge across the Erunna River, distribution of 2,000 prepaid electricity meters, and construction of concrete landing jetties across 18 communities.
In support of education, Aiyedatiwa announced the distribution of 2,000 twin lockers (desks and chairs) along with essential textbooks in English and science to schools in Ilaje and Ese-Odo, with plans underway to renovate 21 public schools in the area.
Princess Abike Bayo-Ilawole, Secretary of OSOPADEC, in her welcome address, praised the governor’s efforts in prioritizing infrastructure that enhances the quality of life for residents. “This road is more than just infrastructure; it connects our communities to economic opportunities and essential services,” she remarked, lauding the governor’s dedication to OSOPADEC’s mandate for sustainable development.
Meanwhile, Governor Aiyedatiwa took his campaign to Ilaje Local Government, where he received strong endorsements from community leaders, monarchs, and prominent APC figures. Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Amapetu of Mahinland, Oba Oluwasegun Akinyomi, affirmed their collective support for Aiyedatiwa’s leadership and reelection bid, noting his commitment to developing the Ilaje region.
“The traditional rulers in this region have resolved to support Governor Aiyedatiwa beyond 2025. We believe in his dedication to our people and his commitment to infrastructure, security, and economic growth in our communities,” he declared.
