Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, has said the economic downturn confronting the country has affected every sector, and workers have borne the brunt of these hardships.
According to the Union, it is exploring and implementing strategies to mitigate the impact of the economic downturn on its members.
President of NUPENG, Prince Williams Akporeha, stated this at a workshop with theme “Challenges of the nation’s economic downturn: Survival options for workers”, organized by Labour Writers Association of Nigeria (LAWAN), in Lagos.
Represented by a senior officer of the Union (Research & Public Affairs), Suleiman Pema the NUPENG President lauded “the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of LAWAN in advocating for better conditions (workers’ rights, decent work, fair wages, safe working conditions, and the empowerment of workers) for Nigerian workers.
Your role in highlighting the struggles and triumphs of the labour force is invaluable. Through your diligent reporting and insightful analysis, you have continuously brought to the forefront the issues that matter most to our workers, ensuring their voices are heard and their plights addressed.
LAWAN has consistently stood by the masses and working class, for this we are immensely grateful to you all.
As we gather here today, we are acutely aware of the economic challenges our nation faces. The economic downturn has affected every sector, and workers have borne the brunt of these hardships. However, it is in times like these that the resilience and indomitable spirit of the Nigerian worker shine the brightest. We have seen countless examples of workers adapting, innovating, and persevering despite the odds.
NUPENG remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting our members and all Nigerian workers. We are actively exploring and implementing strategies to mitigate the impact of the economic downturn. From advocating for fair wages and safe working conditions to providing training and development opportunities, we are dedicated to ensuring that our members not only survive but thrive.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to LAWAN for organizing this workshop and for your continued partnership in the struggle for better working conditions for all Nigerian workers. Together, we will navigate these challenging times and emerge stronger. Let us continue to work hand in hand, with unwavering determination and solidarity, to secure a brighter future for all Nigerian workers.”
