Farmers at the Green Field day held at Tandama demonstration farm in Lere Local Government area of Kaduna state,have narrated the success story of their experience with Vitamin A maize farming.
At the event which was organised by Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) in partnership with Sasakawa African Association (SAA), Malam Sani Kabir a host farmer celebrated his success story on the Vitamin A Maize farming.
Sani Kabir proudly shared his remarkable success story, emerging as SAMAZ-52 Maize which has so many important component and advantages that a farmer can benefit from it.
The host farmer in Tandama Village, Sani Kabir captivated the audience with the journey from land preparation to the last point of waiting for harvest. He thanked GAIN and Sasakawa for their technical supports and the provision of inputs-seeds, fertilizers, agrochemicals and Afkasafe.
He said the collaborative project will assist farmers towards increased vitamin A Maize production and consumption in Kaduna State.
Speaking on the importance of Vitamin A Maize variety, Professor Isaac Eni, the Technical Coordinator for Business development/ Market Oriented Agriculture of Sasakawa African Association-Nigeria, said this variety is strengthening Nutrition in Priority Staples (SNIPS).
Isaac Eni added that Sasakawa African Association is trying to improve technologies in Agriculture for small holder farmers.
“This incredible achievement has positive impact on boosting agricultural production among farmers particularly in the local communities,” he said.
“Vitamin A Maize variety will support Nigerian Agricultural Innovation and Food Security if properly done by farmers. The Vitamin A Maize has impact on our health issues and economic advantage.”
In their separate remarks, the Village heads of Maskawa and Tandama expressed appreciation for chosen their area to have such a wonderful agricultural progress through the effort of Sasakawa and GAIN.
The traditional rulers called on their subjects to embrace farming techniques brought to them at their door step as well add the Vitamin A Maize variety seed.
Hundreds of farmers who attended the Field Day expressed their readiness to use Vitamin A maize in their farms in order to get its benefit as witnessed during the field day.
