Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for Edo State, has urged voters not to gamble with their future, emphasizing that leadership is not a game of chance.
At a fundraising event organized by Corporate Nigeria for AI, Ighodalo outlined his vision for sustainable development, focusing on security, job creation, economic growth, good governance, and support for vulnerable groups.
He aims to build on Governor Godwin Obaseki’s achievements, including the EdoBEST program and healthcare reforms.
Ighodalo stated, “Given the enormous social and macroeconomic challenges we face in Nigeria today, we cannot afford to gamble with our collective future and the destiny of our children by electing leadership that is incapable of addressing key developmental challenges with competence and vision.
“Our country will not progress if we remain passive. We need to find the courage and resources to step in and drive governance.
“Governor Obaseki has laid a strong foundation in Edo, attracting $5.2 billion to the state. It would be unfortunate to allow someone to succeed him who would set the state back 50 years. I need your financial support to prevent that and to sustain the great work done by the current administration in Edo.”
Eric Idiahi, Group Chief Executive Officer of EverCorp Industries lauded Ighodalo’s leadership, highlighting the need for private sector involvement in addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
He said, “Our businesses are more than just economic engines. They are essential to solving the complex problems we face, from fostering sustainable development to creating jobs and driving innovation.
“What unites the members of this group is the belief in Ighodalo’s leadership and the understanding that good governance in any part of Nigeria has a ripple effect on the entire nation.”
Ighodalo’s wife, Ifeyinwa, noted his commitment to supporting women and youth.
She said, “He has the most amazing heart I have ever met. He has overwhelming passion and love for people. He doesn’t have to know you, and he doesn’t see class. Everyone is the same to him.
“He wants the best for everyone. I may be biased because I am his wife, but I believe the people of Edo will be blessed to have Ighodalo at the helm of affairs. I should stop here, but I must add that he will continue the very good work Obaseki and his wife have been doing in Edo. The transformation has been amazing.”
Obaseki, who attended the event, endorsed Ighodalo, describing him as a credible candidate who will continue his administration’s good work.
The governor said, “Ighodalo will be a good governor. He will perform well because he not only has experience in governance and building businesses, but he has also been part of the Edo project from the beginning.”
