A renowned philanthropist, Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho, has donated N15 million and relief materials to victims of the recent flood disaster in Borno State.
The philanthropist reiterated her commitment to alleviating the plight of Nigerians through the Queen Adenike Tejuosho’s (QAT) Foundation.
In a statement issued to journalists in Kaduna on Thursday, it was disclosed that Tejuosho donated the cash and relief materials at Yerwa Central Primary School in Maiduguri, an exercise that was coordinated by a staff of the Borno state Ministry of Education, Mr. Idris Ya’u.
The items donated included 500 bags of 10kg rice, 500 cartons of Indomie, 500 blankets, and 500 mosquito nets, haven provided financial support to vulnerable groups, including N10 million to 100 nursing mothers and N5 million to 100 sick children.
The statement further disclosed that Tejuosho was received by the Shehu of Borno, His Majesty Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi in his palace, where She equally donated essential items, included Indomie, rice, mosquito nets, blankets, and children’s clothing, to support the victims.
The Shehu praised her kindness and generosity, noting that her contribution would go a long way in alleviating the suffering of the affected communities.
“On Wednesday, the CEO QAT Foundation Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho Adenike visited Maiduguri, Borno state in her usual gesture to commiserate with Borno state government, The Shehu of Borno and the victims of recent flood disaster in the state that displaced thousands of persons from their homes, while others lost their lives and properties.”
“The situation in Maiduguri is worrisome as it calls for both national and international support due to the unimaginable pains that the good people of Maiduguri are passing through right now. No words can adequately capture the depth of their pain and suffering.”
“However, as a foundation doing what we know how to do best, I believe.that in times of crisis, we must come together as a community to provide support, comfort, and hope. That is why we have come to Maiduguri today, to demonstrate our solidarity with the people of Borno State and to contribute in some small way to their relief.”
“The donation I made, N15 million and relief materials, is a token of my commitment to supporting vulnerable communities. I hope that it will provide some measure of comfort and relief to those who need it most.”
“I would like to commend the efforts of the Borno State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency, and other organizations working tirelessly to respond to this disaster. I also applaud the generosity of fellow philanthropists, including Aliko Dangote and Aminu Dantata, who have made significant contributions to the relief efforts.”
”I urge all Nigerians to remember that we are our brothers’and sisters’ keepers. Let us continue to support one another in times of need, and work together to build a more compassionate and resilient society.” Tejuosho said in the statement.
“It could be recalled that different groups overtime have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint Tejuosho as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, following the suspension of Dr. Betta Edu.”
