The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) has condemned the unlawful incarceration and inhumane treatment of Naval Seaman Haruna Abbas, who has been subjected to six years of wrongful imprisonment, psychological, and physical torture.

AYCF President General, Yerima Shettima, expressed profound sorrow and indignation over the Seaman’s ordeal, revealed by his wife, Hussaina Abbas, on Berekete Family Radio in Abuja.

AYCF unequivocally condemned the actions of Seaman Abbas’s tormentors and demanded his immediate and unconditional release, along with a comprehensive investigation into his case. The forum urged the Nigerian Army and relevant authorities to establish transparent mechanisms for reviewing cases of alleged wrongful detention, particularly those involving military personnel.

AYCF emphasized the need for an environment where justice prevails and citizens’ dignity is upheld, regardless of profession or background. The forum recognized Seaman Abbas’s plight as a broader systemic issue affecting many citizens who fall prey to arbitrary detention and abuse of power.

AYCF called upon human rights organizations, legal advocates, and civil society to join in the fight for justice, stressing the importance of collective voices in fostering a culture of accountability and transparency. The forum reiterated its unwavering support for Seaman Abbas and his family, demanding swift and decisive action from authorities to address this grave injustice.

“The time to act is now. Justice for Seaman Haruna Abbas is not just a demand; it is a moral imperative that we must uphold for the sake of humanity, dignity, and the rule of law,” Shettima added.
