Two hundred students resident in Osun have been given education support grants to ease their admission process into higher institutions.
The beneficiaries were initially given free JAMB form by the Ileri-Oluwa Education Support Scheme which was facilitated by the Executive Director, Marine Operations, under the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Engr. Olalekan Badmus.
Thirty of the 200 beneficiaries, who scored over two hundred in the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, were given N100,000 grant to facilitate their admission process.
The remaining students, scoring 160 and above were also given cash consolation grants to help with the admission process.
Speaking at the grant distribution programme held at Ileri-Oluwa Building in Osogbo at the weekend, Badmus, who doled out the cash grants to the parents of the beneficiaries, disclosed that the scheme is targeted at supporting poor diligent students achieve their dreams.
According to him, it is a way of giving back to the society that has given a lot to him, hence, the choice of educational scheme to empower the younger generation.
“For this edition, over 200 students benefitted from the free JAMB forms, out of which those that got over 200 score in JAMB are 30 in number and they got a grant of N100,000 each to support them. Others too were given grants.
“This is a way to encourage the youths and also encourage those that have the power and the will to pursue their dreams but they have not been able to push themselves. This is a time the society need those that have the opportunity to give back to society”.
