In a recent Interview  held with Bridge Africa Technologies, organizers of The BAT Most influential people Award in Nigeria, Lucy Ubaka, a distinguished biomedical scientist from Imo State, Nigeria, who has been residing in Georgia, United state of America since August 2021, shared her groundbreaking insights into public health and interdisciplinary research. Her work, which integrates immunology, epidemiology, and environmental health, is making significant waves in the global health community.

A Journey Rooted in Passion and Determination

Ubaka’s dedication to public health was evident during the conference. Reflecting on her early research, she said, “My work has always been driven by a deep commitment to understanding how environmental factors affect public health, particularly in developing nations. I believe that by addressing these issues at the grassroots level, we can create lasting change and improve the health outcomes of entire communities.”

Transformative Contributions to HIV Research

Her impactful research in HIV immunology, especially on preventing mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV/AIDS, has been transformative. Ubaka highlighted the value of interdisciplinary research, stating, “The most significant breakthroughs in science often come from the intersection of disciplines. By integrating insights from immunology, epidemiology, and environmental health, we can develop more comprehensive strategies to tackle the complex health challenges facing our world today.” Her efforts have been instrumental in optimizing HIV treatment and advancing global initiatives to eliminate pediatric HIV.
