Woman seeks divorce over alleged toxic marriage

Dear Bunmi, after a year of marriage, I want out

ASABA—The Asaba Customary District Court in Delta State has adjourned till July 22, 2024, for definite hearing in a divorce suit instituted by one Mrs. Uche Ezenyili, who is praying the court to dissolve her marriage, which she claimed had become toxic.

Adjourning the case, the court presided by Mr. V. Rapu urged parties to be in court on July 22, 2024, without failing.

The adjournment was sequel to a written application earlier submitted to the court by counsel to the respondent, Ariomaghwa Medjor, that counsel to respondent would be absent from court because of his involvement in the conduct of another case at a Federal High Court, Asaba, though the respondent and husband to the plaintiff, Mr. Obi Ezenyili was also absent from court.

Counsel to the plaintiff, Humphrey Ororho, however, opposed the request, describing it as a deliberate ploy by the defence to unnecessarily delay the hearing of the case.

The plaintiff had instituted the suit, praying the court to dissolve the marriage over irreconcilable differences and lack of love but in a counter petition, the respondent described the claim as false, adding that he still loved his wife.
