Pyrates render free malaria treatment to Abuja residents

-Distributes treated mosquito nets

ABUJA — THE National Association of Seadogs, NAS, (Pyrates Confraternity) Zuma Deck has taken the fight against malaria to Byazhin community, a village in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

The campaign was led by the Capoon of the Deck, Mr. Nnamdi Eze and team of Doctors and other medical professionals led by Dr. Uju Patrick.

The Byazhin Primary Healthcare Centre also sent some support staff to compliment the efforts of the association’s team of medical professionals.

At the event, a total of one hundred and sixty two patients were seen and treated for majorly malaria and other illnesses.

Amongst the number were twenty children ranging from five months to 17 years, 52 adult males within the age range of 25 to 74 years and 82 adult females within the age bracket of 27 to 64 years.

In appreciation of this intervention project in his community, the traditional Head of the community, Chief Dalami Ezekiel thanked the association for their kind gesture and requested them to do this more often and regularly.

He praised the selflessness of the doctors and the support health professionals, the patience and resilience.

He said, ‘I watched as the numbers grew progressively as the project went on and saw how unfaced and undeterred your doctors were . We are indeed grateful.”

The coordinator of the project, Viktor Ikiriko thanked members of the community for playing their part in the success of the program by turning out in their numbers and providing a serene environment to host the event.

The association also distributed treated mosquito nets to about 100 members of the community even as they were taught basic malaria preventive behavior.

The project was part supported by Greenstrides Initiative , GDI an environment and community development non-governmental organization.
