The 2023 People’s Democratic party (PDP) governorship candidate in Nasarawa state, Emmanuel David Ombugadu has decried the worsening insecurity especially kidnapping in Nasarawa state, challenging the authorities concern to rise to their responsibility of securing and protecting its citizens.

The former member of the House of representatives in a statement while reacting to the high spate of insecurity in the state urged the government at all levels including the security agencies to provide a 24-hour security patrol in the entire state to stem criminal activities describing the recent upsurge in crimes in the state as worrisome and unacceptable

“The incessant kidnapping, killing of high profile citizens of the state must not be allowed to persist in a surprised peaceful state like Nasarawa.

“Communities are in Nasarawa state deserved to be given adequate protection, guarantee their safety in a society where government consider the lives of its citizenry as it priority. The situation in Nasarawa state is worrisome not only to the affected residents but to the people of the entire state”.

“The activities of these criminals are adversely affecting growth of the state. Apart from kidnapping harassment and killing of people We find it difficult to understand why this incident will happen consistently without any form of concrete action on the part of government”, the statement added.

The former lawmaker who wonder whether kidnapping has now become part of daily life in Nasarawa state cited cases of kidnap of the students of Federal polytechnic, Nasarawa, students of the Federal University of Lafia, Akwanga Local Government Chairman and his friend as well as the recently abduction of the former Attorney General and Commissioner of justice’s father, late Daniel Umaru Lagi.

According to Dr Ombugadu, citizens in a peaceful state like Nasarawa should not be made to be living on knife edge in their mother land as a result of bad governance.

While lamenting the spate of kidnap for ransom in the state, Ombugadu, said the widespread insecurity and chaos been exacerbated by the routine kidnapping as armed group tighten their stranglehold on the citizens in the state must be tackled as a responsible government

The statement however advised the APC government in the state to wake up to its responsibility of securing the state adding that what is happening in the state was not what the citizens bargain for and must not be allowed to continue

The statement added” the sufferings inflicted on the people as a result of a perceived failure on the part of the people governing us is enough for our people to contend with. Allowing insecurity to thrive in a state such as Nasarawa must be resisted and condemned.

“Our people are suffering, proactive measures must be put in place to tackle and end the prevailing security challenges in our dear state”, the statement declared.
