10th NASS: Ezea faults report listing him among senators without bill in one year

National Assembly

Says I sponsored a bill, raised several motions, contributed to debates

ONE of the leading Labour Party, LP, lawmakers in the National Assembly, Senator Okechukwu Ezea, who represents Enugu North in the Senate, has picked holes in Vanguard’s report listing him among 24 senators without a bill one year into the 10th NASS.

Although, the headline of the report said “24 senators have no bill in one year,” the story covered bills sponsored between June 13, 2023 and March 31, 2024.

Senator Ezea said the period did not cover one year and as such it was wrong to say he did not sponsor a bill in one year of the 10th Senate because he presented a bill on April 30. And this was apart from raising several motions and contributing to debates among others.

In a statement by his Special Adviser (Media), Mr. Aniebo Nwamu, he said: “The truth is that, precisely on April 30, 2024, Distinguished Senator Ezea’s bill was listed No. 5 on the Senate Order Paper for the day, as one of the bills to be presented to the Senate for debate. The bill entitled *”The Agricultural Research Council Act (Amendment) Bill, 2024″,* passed the first reading on the floor of the Nigerian Senate.

“The bill is to seek the amendment of the Agricultural Research Council Act, to make provision for the creation of Federal College of Agriculture, Adani, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Enugu State. It is currently making legislative progress towards its passage into law.

Besides, video clips showing Senator Ezea raising motions and contributing to debates on the floor of the red chamber are everywhere on the web.”
