In a dramatic midnight operation, Rivers State Police Command apprehended a car theft specialist, Meshach Monday, a 27-year-old native of Ogoni. The arrest took place following a high-speed chase through the city’s streets.

Meshach, employed as a security officer at Geepap Mobile Company, was intercepted by officers from the Olu Obasanjo Division while driving a Toyota Corolla along Olu Obasanjo Road. His suspicious maneuvers and subsequent attempt to evade the police near the G.R.A junction triggered the officers’ attention. The ensuing pursuit continued onto the busy Aba Road, where he was ultimately apprehended.

During interrogation, Meshach confessed to the crime, revealing that despite his two-years of working at Geepap, he had concealed his driving abilities. He admitted to succumbing to temptation driven by hunger, stealing the customer’s car, which had been parked for maintenance, with the intent to sell it and improve his life.

A statement by the police public relations officer, PPRO, Grace Iringe-Koko on Sunday said that Mr. Godfrey, the General Manager at Geepap, expressed surprise upon learning of Meshach’s hidden driving skills and the theft. He confirmed that the stolen vehicle was indeed undergoing repairs at the time of the incident.

The case has since been charged to court, and police investigations are ongoing to capture Meshach’s accomplices within the car theft ring.

Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu has urged citizens to enhance their security measures by installing cameras and alarms to prevent similar incidents, particularly outside of working hours.
