……as over 3,200 Patients Benefit

The Minister of Niger Delta Development, Hon. Engr. Abubakar Momoh, yesterday flagged off a free medical outreach by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Edo state, stating that no fewer than 3,200 patients benefited from the initiative.

The program witnessed a massive turnout, including revered traditional rulers, Christain leaders among thousands of residents receiving consultations, treatments, and surgeries.

The outreach was a display of commitment to improving healthcare in the Niger Delta region by the NDDC who’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Director (MD/CEO), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku was represented by the NDDC state coordinator, Mrs. Babawale Mercy.

The outreach, which will conclude on Saturday, May 18, has already surpassed expectations, with over 720 individuals receiving treatment and free eyeglasses, among others who successfully underwent hernia and dental surgeries.

Minister Momoh expressed his delight at the overwhelming response, stating that the target of 5,000 beneficiaries would not only be met but surpassed by the end of the program.

According to a statement by the Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Minister, Mr. John Mayaki, “For us in the Ministry of Niger Delta Development, there are quite a number of programs that are going on through the NDDC.

“Already, some persons are undergoing training abroad on a scholarship basis, and also, applications are currently ongoing for postgraduate students. All these, including the free medical outreach, are part of their corporate social responsibility. With the new management in place, we will always inform our people in the region of whatever the commission or the ministry is doing so that the people can key into them”.

According to the Minister, “Let me assure you that with the 2024 budget being operational, the people of the Niger Delta region will know that NDDC now is different from NDDC before. And that this is as a result of the support we have so far received from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is deeply committed to ensuring that the people of the Niger Delta get maximum benefit from the oil being produced in the region. And this is in conformity with what we are doing here today – the renewed hope agenda”.

Momoh said, “As far as I’m concerned, I am committed to ensuring that every nook and cranny of the Niger Delta benefits as long as we remain in power. And that we bring meaningful development to the entire region.”
