Okuama Killings: We’ll join Army to fish out killers – Oduku

THE Commandant General, Riverine Security, Commander Bibi Oduku, Thursday, disclosed plans of joining the Nigerian Army to fish out killers of 17 Army personnel in Okuama in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Oduku made this known during the Eid celebrations with senior military officers and prominent personalities in Abuja.

He also expressed sympathy and condolences to the deceased families, and added that as a Coast Guard security outfit they will continue to compliment efforts of the military in all riverine areas of the country based on their vast experience and knowledge of the terrain.

He said:”The Riverine Security is a formidable security organization, which the Coast – Guard of the Federation, and we have been working hard to ensure a secure Niger Delta region, and our services are not limited to the Niger Delta region but the entire riverine communities and areas in the country.

“We are purely established to compliment the Nigerian military, therefore, we express pain over the unnecessary attack on 17 officers and men of the Nigerian Army in Okuama in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

“We vehemently condemn the attack and the perpetrators and their sponsors for the barbaric act. Therefore, condole with the deceased families, and pray God to help their family.

“We will join forces with the Nigerian Army to fish out killers of the 17 Army officers at Okuama, Delta State including other perpetrators who have killed Military personnel and destroying Federal Government properties in other Niger Delta States that have been involving on the killings of Military Officers.

“We will do all our best to work with the office of the Defence Minister, Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, the Inspector General of Police and other security Chiefs to make sure that the killings and attacks in the South South and particularly the riverine areas where criminals are using as an hideouts will be delt with.”

Meanwhile, he also commended the Chief of Defence Staff Office to come up with unique safety and security plans to safeguard lives and properties of the Nigerians from all forms of attacks in Nigeria and the Niger Delta region, South East region.

“The Chief of Defence Staff has in mind to focus on and with Riverine Security by his side in action in terms of local intelligence information gathering and communication systems, peace is assured to an acceptable level”, he said.

He further stated that, “We will support the Nigerian Government to stop the oil theft in the Niger Delta region and other parts of the country.

“However, we are calling on the Federal and State Governments to put the citizens living in the riverine areas into their development programmes and work with them in order for them not to feel abandoned by the Federal and State Governments.”

Meanwhile, he (Oduku) pointed out that the Nigerian Government need to fight against drugs and crimes by holistically sensitizing youths, especially at the local government areas to abstains from drugs and crimes.

“With the holistic sensitization of youth it will go a long way to eradicate criminality among the youth, hence the need to support organisations to join relevant government orgainsations to achieve this”, he added.
