Edo 2024: APC cautions members opposing new entrants

.Defection rumour trails former Speaker

By Ozioruva Aliu

BENIN CITY – THE Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned its members against moves to resist members purportedly considering joining the party.

The statement from the party was a reaction to a letter written by the leadership of the party in Ward 6, Akoko-Ed0 local government area where the leaders urged the party not to re-admit the former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Adjoto.

The leaders of his ward in the letter accused Adjoto of betraying his benefactor, Sen Adams Oshiomhole and that he has also fallen out with the Peoples Democratic Party in the area.

The protest against Adjoto came few days after a similar protest was held in Etsako West local government area against the purported return of the former deputy governor, Rt, Hin Philip Shaibu to the APC.

When contacted on phone, Adjoto said that the rumour was a mere speculation. “It is just speculation and perhaps a wishful thought. It is just a busy body because before anybody can write a letter, the person should be sure of what he or she is trying to defend or oppose. It amounts to busybody and it is a non issue. Where there is no demand, there won’t be supply. It is only when there is a demand that there will be supply, if there is no demand and you are supplying, will that not amount to nothing?” he asked.
The press statement by the State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Prince Uwadiae Igbinigie said the state working committee party “strongly expressed dissatisfaction and disappointment as it relates to the very unacceptable manner/ posture been exhibited by members of the LGA, WARD EXCO and some leaders of Akoko Edo  Local Government Area chapter of our party towards members of other political parties who have found good and pleasant reasons to decamped to our party.

“It must be emphasised in clear terms that the duties of these EXCO members and leaders of this LGA is to provide a very well oiled platform irresistibly positioned to attract persons into our party rather than being hostile to them.

“APC is poised to and has opened its doors  wide open for members of other political parties to join us because in a political environment, the principles of “the more, the merrier ” takes a centre stage.

“It is the firm belief of our great party, the APC that ” even if the candidate of another political party readily makes himself or herself available for admission into our party, we shall not hesitate to accept and admit the person because the vote of one person in a democratic setting is very important to win an election.

“Let it be known that the Exco of any LGA, ward and leaders do not have the prerogative to stop any person willing to join our party from doing so, as such action is not only antithetical to the wishes of our party,  its also informed by aims propelled by insensitivity to the philosophy of inclusivity which remain the hallmark of our party.

“As the party navigates the turbulent terrain of success in the Gubernatorial elections,  let the willing Edo people who have suffered untold hardship in the hands of the present administration join the beautiful train of the APC that shall berth at Dennis Osadebe House  come September 2024.”
