Jazz music is not exactly a staple on the music menu of many Nigerians. Perhaps, it is a reason US-based Nigerian jazz artist, Douye Youduba is not a household name in the country but she is arguably Nigeria’s biggest under-reported female Jazz artiste.

Speaking with Potpourri in a chat, Douye shares insights into her kind of music, noting that there is no difference between present-day music and the oldies.

She said, “Quality music is not bound by time or era. It is a reflection of the human experience, and as long as there are artists who are passionate about their craft and committed to creating something meaningful, there will always be quality music for us to enjoy and be inspired by.”

She added, “Music is a universal language that transcends borders and cultures, and I believe that everyone deserves to experience its power and beauty. By sharing my gift, I hope to spread the message of hope, love, and unity to people all over the world. Whether it’s through a live performance, a recorded album, or a social media post, I believe that every opportunity to share my gift is an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life.

Douyé is a Nigerian-born jazz singer who has gained recognition worldwide for her soulful and melodic voice. She was born and raised in Nigeria, where she was introduced to jazz music by her father at a young age. After moving to the United States, she began performing as a jazz singer in venues throughout California.
