Team Nigeria has moved to the fourth position on the overall medals table at the ongoing African Games in Ghana with ten gold, eighteen silver and 16 bronze medals.
The country climbed significantly in the standings on Monday after winning seven gold medals on Sunday.
After days of anguish and near-misses, Anuoluwapo Opeyori won Team Nigeria’s first gold medal in the Badminton men’s singles tournament.
Spectacular performances followed in the women’s wrestling event, with all six Nigerian wrestlers winning gold medals.
Mercy Genesis initiated the gold medal rush, followed by Christiana Ogunsanya’s faultless finish, and Kolawole Omolayo’s unstoppable performance in the 62kg category.
In first place on the table at the ongoing African Games is Egypt with 40 gold, 18 silver and 16 bronze medals. They are followed by Algeria and South Africa in second and third place respectively as of 10:12pm on Monday.
