Africa should help Haiti, as war-torn Ukraine sent grains to Nigeria – Shehu Sani

Former Kaduna Senator and rights activist, Sen Shehu Sani, has called on African countries to arise and help Haiti which is currently battling anarchy from armed gangs.

The ex-federal lawmaker said while it is obvious that Africa has its enormous challenges, it can still offer help to the Caribbean country, as it appears no nation is willing to help Haitians.

Sani disclosed this in a post on his X account on Friday, adding that even with the continent’s problems it can solve other nations’ problems.

Haiti has been hijacked by armed gangs who have plunged it into crisis, and prominent among the gangster leaders is Jimmy Chérizier, nicknamed Barbecue.

Barbecue is a former police officer who has become a Haitian gang leader and warlord who is the head of the Fòs Revolisyonè G9 a Fanmi e Alye, a federation of over a dozen Haitian gangs based in Port-au-Prince.

He threatened to plunge the country into a civil war if Prime Minister Ariel Henry did not step down.

The statement forced Henry to resign after Barbecue facilitated the fiercest prison break in the history of Haiti in which more than 400 inmates escaped.

Speaking about Haiti, Sani said, “It’s time for Africa to help Haiti. It appears no country is willing to help them. I know you will say we have our problems, yes we do have problems, but our problems are far less than that of Haiti.”

The former Senator added, “Ukraine has problems, yet they sent you grains.”

Recall that early this month, Ukraine, a war-devastated European country donated 25,000 tonnes of grains to about 1.3 million people in the North-East region of Nigeria.
