Senate confirms 17 NPC Commissioners forwarded by Tinubu

…Kelechi Ohiri as DG, NHIA

…Also confirms Arabi as Chairman, NAHCON, 3 others as Commissioners

THE Senate has confirmed the appointment of 17 Commissioners for the National  Population  Commission,  NPC forwarded to it by President Bola Tinubu.

The confirmation on Wednesday was sequel to  the consideration of a report of the screening of the nominees presented by the Chairman, Senate  Committee on National Identity Card and Population, Senator Abdul Ningi, PDP,  Bauchi Central.

Those confirmed as Commissioners are  Hon Emmanuel Eke, Abia; Dr. Clifford Zirra; Adamawa;  Mr Chidi Ezeoke; Anambra;Dr Isa Buratai, Borno; Bishop  Alex Ukam; Blessyn Brume-Ataguba, Delta; Dr. Jeremiah Nwankwegu, Ebonyi; Dr Tony Aiyejina; Edo; Ejike Ezeh; Enugu and Abubakar Damburam; Gombe.

Others are Prof. Uba Nnabue; Imo; Sa’adatu Dogon,  Bauchi; Kaduna State;  Dr Aminu Tsanyawa; Kano;  Yori Afolabi; Kogi;  Mary Afan; Plateau, Saany Sale; Taraba;  and

Two nominees,  Olakunle Sobukola; Ogun and Temitayo Oluwatiyi, Ondo were not screened as they did not appear before the Committee. 

The Senate has also confirmed the appointment of Dr. Kelechi Ohiri as the Director General of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

The  confirmation on Wednesday was sequel to the consideration of the Committee on Health (Secondary & Tertiary) by the Chairman,  Senator  Ipalibo Harry Banigo, PDP, Rivers West

Also on Wednesday, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Jalal Arabi              as the Chairman, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

Also confirmed for NAHCON are Aliu Abdul-Razak, Commissioner (Policy, Personnel & Finance); Prince Anofiu Elegushi, Commissioner (Operations and Prof. Abubakar A. Yagawal, Commissioner (Planning & Research).

The confirmation was after the consideration of the report of the Committee on Foreign Affairs by its Chairman, Senator  Sani Bello, APC, Niger North.
