OVER 100 civil society groups yesterday stormed the National Assembly complex to protest the stoppage of the registration of alcohol in sachet and small volume PET and glass bottles below 200ml by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC.

Speaking for the groups during the protest yesterday in Abuja,  spokesperson for the coalition who is also the main convener, Adam Matazu, also called for the immediate sack of NAFDAC DG, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, for alleged anti-people policies.

Tagged, ”Let The Poor Live”, the protesters were led by the Coalition Against Economic Saboteurs.

The  groups, while  lamenting that the new policy would further aggrevate the sufferings of the people and create more problems for the nation’s economy, lamented that Adeyeye was being used by multinationals to destroy small businesses and companies in the country.

Matazu said:  “Today (yesterday), we address a matter of grave concern, the recent decision by the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control, NAFDAC, Professor Moji Adeyeye, to ban the sale of beverages in small sachets.

“We view this policy as a direct assault on the livelihoods of millions of Nigerians, a move that will not only put countless citizens out of work but also exacerbate the existing problems of insecurity and unemployment in our nation.”
