Abia State Government has sealed the State secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, located at 45 Finbarrs Road, in the state capital, Umuahia.
The officials suspected to be workers of the Umuahia Capital Development Authority,UCDA,were accompanied by stern- looking mobile policemen and allegedly refused to disclose their identities and on whose order they sealed the secretariat.
However, one of the officials said they were acting on instructions from above.’
Acting State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Amah Abraham, in a statement, said the party views the sealing of its secretariat as a form of targeted harassment orchestrated by the Governor Alex Otti-led Labour Party administration in the state.
He said;”This move has not only caught the party off guard but is also viewed as a blatant act of witch-hunting against the PDP in the state.
“The party’s views this action as barbaric and wholly unacceptable within any democratic society. Such overt displays of aggression towards opposition parties undermine the principles of democracy and threaten the peaceful functioning of political entities. The arbitrary closure of the party’s secretariat raises concern about the state of political tolerance and respect for opposition voices in the state.”
He assured that the PDP would take legal action to challenge the sealing of its secretariat and recover it.
