Makurdi —No fewer than eight persons were feared killed, this weekend, following a fresh herdsmen attack on Ogwumogbo, Ikpele and Ejima communities in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack also left many others missing and displaced from their homes. The attack took place on Saturday between noon and 4p.m.
This latest attack comes a week after a similar one on Agatu communities claimed the lives of three security personnel and several others.
Like in the recent cases, the armed herders invade the communities from neighbouring Nasarawa State.
The lawmaker representing Agatu state constituency, Mr. Godwin Edoh, who confirmed the development, yesterday, lamented that several of Agatu communities and villages had been sacked in the last few week by the marauders.
He regretted that thousands of his constituents had been displaced from their homes and villages and were left roaming from one place to the other for safety.
According to the lawmaker, “The herdsmen came again on Saturday and three communities, including Ogwumogbo, Ikpele and Ejima were attacked and sacked.
“Eight persons lost their lives in that attack, others sustained injuries and several persons are also missing. Despite all our efforts, the killings have persisted. No one is coming to our aid and the government seems quiet. I do not understand this.”
Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, said: “I do not have this report.”
