The Governing Council of the Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun state has approved the appointment of Professor Ahmed Yerima as its new Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

Prior to his appointment, he was the Provost,  College of Postgraduate Studies (2021-2023). He was the pioneer inaugural lecturer of Redeemer’s University and was the Chairman of the Committee of the movement of the university from Mowe to its present site in Ede in 2014. 

In a statement issued by the University’s Public Relation Officer, Adetunji Adeleke, Professor Yerima is an accomplished playwright, who has published over 80 plays, many of which have won international awards. 

“In 2006, he won the Nigerian/NLNG prize for Literature and presently serves as a Member of the Advisory Board of the prize. He has published over 40 articles in international journals and has to his credit 12 scholarly books and 10 chapters in books that are being used in tertiary institutions across the world. He is also a Fellow of the distinguished Nigerian Academy of Letters

“His appointment takes immediate effect”, it reads.

Similarly, the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Anthony Akinlo appointed Professor Gabriel Akinyemi has the new Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies of the institution.

He is an alumnus of the prestigious University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State, where he obtained both a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Chemistry and a Master of Science degree in Analytical Chemistry in 1988 and 1991 respectively.

Professor Adeyemi continued his postgraduate work at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, where he successfully defended his Ph.D. in 1999 and was awarded the Ph.D. degree in Organometallics Chemistry in 2000. His bench work toward the Ph.D. degree was carried out at the Structural Chemistry Laboratory, Institute of Chemistry, Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan, utilizing a Taiwanese National Science Council Research Assistance under Professor Ling-Kang, Liu from 1997 to 1999.

He also proceeded to the School of Chemistry, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, for a postdoctoral fellowship in 2001 under Professor Neil J. Coville. In 2007, he also won a research fellowship by the DST and NRF of South Africa, tenable at the School of Chemistry, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg under Professor N.J. Coville.
