There was tension at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s collation centre in Yola, Adamawa State, on Sunday over the suspension of the collation of the governorship election results in the state.
Trouble began at the collation centre when the Returning Officer in charge of the state’s governorship election, Professor Mohammed Mele, announced that the declaration of results had been shifted to Monday.
When the news of the postponement filtered into the capital city (Yola), thugs in their hundreds reportedly took over strategic locations in the city to attack innocent citizens and passers-by, motorists and others.
Meanwhile, while the hoodlums unleashed mayhem at the aforesaid areas, politicians, journalists, INEC staff and others were held hostage at the collation centre.
