In preparation for the maiden edition of Ughelli to the world concert/awards scheduled to hold on December 25, 2022, Christmas Day in Ughelli, Delta State, the nomination list has emerged for defining various Ughelli sons and daughters who have placed indelible marks in society from their acts and crafts in various industries.

Among the top nominees are Chief Lawrence Emareyo, Chief Voke Oshasha, Obibi Maro, Karo Okotie, Karo Grandson, Dave Ogbeni, Destalker, Carter Efe, Sydney Talker, Diamond Akpososo, Richard Gbajimi Meekyruntins, Ese Brume, Efe Ajagba, Jerry Okpan, Uti Nwachukwu, and Von Apochi to mention but a few in several categories.

The nominees are worthy sons and daughters of Ughelli who are making waves in the corporate world, non-governmental organisations, fashion, comedy, music and other sectors.

The awards to be given are in 52 categories with 42 of the categories unveiled to the public. The remaining six categories yet to be released are honorary categories to be decided by The Award’s Panel of Judges and made public on the day of the event.

There are also non-voting categories which are Ughelli Hall of Fame Awards, Ughelli Life Ambassadors, Posthumous awards, Best WAEC and NECO results, Most Peaceful Community and Ughelli strongest man.

Mr Usiaphe Kelvin popularly known as Whale Mouth who is the convener told the press that the essence of Ughelli to the World Concert/Awards is to bring together all Ughelli kinsmen, residents, friends and well-wishers to celebrate her heritage.

He also said is for the honour of those who have held the torch of Ughelli in the world and also promote the kingdom in a positive light thereby putting it on the global stage.

“Ughelli as a town used to be the glory of Delta state as Government College Ughelli was a citadel of learning that many prominent Nigerians attended. Also, Beta Glass, ECN and so many institutions made Ughelli a city to visit, today it is not the case so we are here to change the narrative and rewrite our story.

“The likes of Mike Okri, Mudi Africa, Efe Ajagba, Ufuoma McDermott, Peggy Ovire, Efetobore Apochi, Johnny Ena, Destalker, MR. Abraham Ogbodo, Alibaba and so many are all of  Ughelli heritage.

“These are men and women who are superstars in their unique fields, so we are calling on all Ughelli kinsmen, friends and residents of Ughelli to come out this Christmas. Let’s put hands together to celebrate ourselves and take Ughelli to the World,” Whale Mouth said.
