ASABA- All Progressives Congress, APC, 2019 governorship candidate in Delta State, Chief Great Ogboru, has parted ways politically with his one-time ally and Deputy President of Senate, DSP, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, over the 2023 gubernatorial elections.

Vanguard learned authoritatively that Ogboru will fly the gubernatorial flag of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Delta state, in the 2023 governorship elections.

A top official of APGA confirmed to Vanguard, yesterday, at Asaba: “Chief Great Ogboru has picked our 2023 governorship ticket you can take it to the bank”.

Ogboru reportedly decided to dump APC after discovering that Senator Omo-Agege, currently the leader of the party in the South-South region, has totally appropriated the party structure in the state that there is no way any aspirant, other than him, can emerge as a candidate in the governorship primary.

For months, Omo-Agege and some APC had tried unsuccessfully to make Ogboru see reason with on DSP’s candidacy, but he insisted on flying the party’s 2023 governorship flag.

Chief Ogboru from Delta Central senatorial district had contested virtually every governorship election in the state since 2003 on the platform of different political parties and lost in all.

Vanguard could not reach Ogboru for comments on the development, but the APGA official hinted: “By Sunday, the arrangement will be finalized at our governorship primaries, we have already conducted House of Assembly and other primaries.”

A disappointed APC chieftain from Delta Central, Alhaji Mumakai Unagha, reacting to Ogboru’s switch to APGA, said: ” Chief Great Ogboru has shot himself on the foot for decamping from the All Progressives Congress to the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA”.

Unagha, a former APC presidential aspirant , stated: “Ogboru has taken the wrong step which may continually hunt him if he did not act fast by retracing his step back to APC.”

” In his usual way, he cannot face or subject himself to primary elections but wants the ticket on a platter of gold. He does not want to be a follower, but always a leader.

“Chief is already a very bad product that is not marketable anymore, he should work with the Deputy President of Senate to liberate Delta state.

” Ogboru is a serial contestant and loser who has turned his political ambition to business, instead of service to Deltans.

“The Urhobo nation, indeed Delta state, will this time around resist the antics of Chief Ogboru always dividing the Urhobo nation for his personal interest. The Urhobos have realized their mistake of the past,” he said.
