The wife of former governor of Bayelsa state, Alayingi Sylva, Thursday, stated that the insecurity challenges facing the country are not peculiar to Nigeria.

Sylva made this known to journalists during a Focus Africa Leading Women press Conference, in Abuja.

She pointed-out that other countries of the world are facing an even more terrible insecurity dilemma.

She maintained that the military, likewise the paramilitary, are ensuring that insecurity challenges in Nigeria are tamed.

She said: “I believe that the government is doing everything that it can do to get hold of the situation. I travel a lot because of my business. Unfortunately, if you look at the security problems, it is not very peculiar to Nigeria, it is all over the world.

“One of the scariest places I don’t like to enter by train is in London. I don’t like to enter trains in London because the underground gets blown up by crazy people. If you walk on the streets of London, even in America, you will be scared of going out because you will see people shooting their fellow humans. Sometimes, I don’t want to go out.

“I know it is our reality in Nigeria but I just want to bring us back to people understanding that it is not just a Nigerian thing. Security problems are all over the world. The world is at the point where we are today. It is everywhere.

“So, yes, the government is doing everything that it can and I understand one of the biggest budgets in the country is the security budget. I know that sometimes our military personnel are sometimes overwhelmed but they’re doing a lot and they’re trying their best because nobody wants to be attacked.

“Even security personnel and even the police are also being attacked. I don’t think they enjoy it or they would like to be attacked. So, I believe that while everybody is doing their own bit, you know they’re doing their best to make sure that we get a hold of the security situation and we can live our lives fully and freely as we should.”
