30,000 youths storm Calabar for APC Youths Summit

OVER Thirty thousand youths from across the eighteen local government areas of  Cross River State on Saturday stormed Calabar- to participate in the maiden All Progressives Congress, APC, Youths Summit hled in the state.

Addressing the youths,  Senator Ben Ayade, governor of the state   told them that they are an essential component  of Nigeria and  their future is the present therefore   if they must make meaningful impact in the social political sphere of the country they should  get involved in the  leadership of the nation now.

Ayade said Nigeria has made progress but the progress is not noticeable because young people have not been brought into government.

He urged the youths to believe in themselves adding that it was only God that could change anyone’s destiny.

“I am here to tell you that the future is now and as youths you must not be limited by the circumstances of your birth.

“As a government, we are going to commence a social welfare scheme that will see to the needs of the youths in the state.

“This scheme will be domiciled in the 196 wards in the state, so, as you go back to your various wards, go to your ward chairmen, councillors and traditional rulers to get involved in the scheme,” he said.

Mr Asuquo Ekpenyong, the State Commissioner for Finance,  told the youths that it was their time to take ovet governance since they are equipped with energy,  foresight and capacity for bring about changes to the economy, polity and environment.

“Life is a relay race. The athlete  with the baton runs with all his strength on the track with his focus to handover to next athlete who is set on his marks to take over the baton and complete the race. The youths  are ready on their marks to take over governance.”

He said the youth summit is an engagement with the youths to get them actively involved in governance and future of Nigeria and called them not to shy from that responsibility.

On his part, Mr Alphonsus Eba, Chairman of  APC in  the state  said the youths of the state had come out in their numbers to thank the governor for his emancipation of the youths in the state by getting thousands of them into the governance in the state both at the state and local government levels.

“It takes someone with the heart of gold to get seven thousand youths actively engaged into the states payroll and thirty thousand others at the local government level. We cannot thank you enough our dear governor”

Eba added that Gov. Ayade would be remembered for being the only governor that has established over thirty industries which are employing and actively engaging  thousands of youths.

Similarly, Mr Ismaeel Ahmed, National Youth Chairman of APC said when he saw  the strides the  governor of Cross River had achieved for the youths in the state, he and his team decided to be present at the summit

Ahmed appealed to the governor of Cross River to visit the youths of the party whenever he visits Abuja, join them in their rallies and be a voice for the youths at the national level.
