2023 Presidency: Sagay living in the past, it’s time for the youth – Convener Congress For Better Nigeria

By Boluwaji Obahopo – Lokoja

The Convener, Congress For Better Nigeria, Barr. Zaccaeus Dare Michael has faulted the claims of Professor Itse Sagay for rejecting the 2023 presidential ambition of governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, saying “Sagay is still living in the past.”

The Convener while reacting to Sagay’s claim that the Kogi governor has no records to show to warrant his nursing presidential ambition, lambasted Prof. Sagay insisting that his (Sagay) generation has failed this country, and it is time for the Youths to take their destinies in their hands in 2023.

According to Dare, “It is unfortunate that a learned personality would speak about rotation in a democracy. The overwhelming calls across the country for Governor Bello to aspire is hinged on his outstanding performances in governance as can be seen in all sectors of governance.

“Sagay is living in a world of ignorance not knowing that Kogi State is adjudged as the most peaceful state in the North today. We urge him to visit the State to see first hand the transformation the State has witnessed under Governor Bello.

“Prof Sagay is a man who is not in tune with realities. As much as he tries to seek relevance, he has further exposed his inadequacies of happenings in the country. We urge him to have a rethink and do restitution for failure to bring to disrepute the person and efforts of Governor Bello.”

The Convener said the days when the generation of Prof. Sagay were allowed to drag the nation backwards has long gone as all over the world Youths are now in leadership position; and Nigeria not going to be an exception.

He warned that any attempt to deny the teeming Youths of Nigeria leadership in the Presidency in 2023 will witness another uprising as was witnessed during the EndSARS protest last year.

“It is disheartening that Professor Sagay would embark on a campaign to condemn young and upcoming new generation of Nigeria’s political class from what rightfully belongs to the youths. His utterances is most unfortunate.”

Dare who said contest for 2023 will be based on competence, urged Sagay to respect the processes of electing a leader under a democratic system and forget any undemocratic arrangements that is not recognized by law as Nigerian Youths are now more wiser.

He described Governor Bello’s administration as one that has met the yearning and aspiration of the people of Kogi State in the areas of health, education, security and infrastructure, reasons why his popularity across the country remains unprecedented.

The convener concluded that efforts to ensure the Youths elect one of their own remains sacrosanct.
