•Boy needs N12m for transplant

Certainly, this is not the best of time for family of Ajayi Sunday Gbenga of Ado-Ekiti, Ado Local Government Area of Ekiti State, as one of  their sons, Boluwatife Samuel, is down with kidney failure.

Boluwatife, a JSS 1 student of Ado Community High School, Ado Ekiti, was diagnosed with kidney failure on the May 12, 2021, at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti.

Medical reports from the hospital which was made available to Sunday Vanguard, showed that Boluwatife has “Acute Glomerulonephritis complicated with hypertension and end stage renal failure.”

What this means is that the two kidneys have short down making it difficult for him to pass urine.

The report further revealed that the boy “has had several sessions of Haemodialysis but recovery has not been remarkable. He needs renal transplant.”

Mr. Ajayi, a civil servant with Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said he has exhausted his meagre savings on treatment and called on Nigerians, corporate organisations and Ekiti State government to come to his aide.    

Narrating his ordeal, he said, “The sickness started on the 9th of May 2021 with symptom of fever and vomiting. We took him to hospital immediately and we have been on it till date.

“Since then, he has been on admission at the same hospital. We have been taking him for dialysis two times a week and he has undergone about eleven sections of dialysis just to save his life.

“Doctors said the solution is to carry out a kidney transplant for my boy and N12 million is required for the surgery.”

The distraught father, who said he has not received any form of assistance, stated that money is a major obstacle to his son’s treatment. “I am begging well-meaning Nigerians and Ekiti State government to please kindly help me to save the life of Boluwatife”, he pleaded.
