A year after the death of ebullient Lagos senator, Sen. Adebayo Osimowo, his family said they are still deeply hurt by the passing of their loved one.Recall that Sen. Osinowo, fondly called ‘Peperito’ by his admirers fell into the icy hands of death on Monday, February 15, 2020. He was aged 64.
He represented the Lagos East Senatorial District in the National Assembly .
Speaking with reporters in Lagos, the deceased’s younger sister and close confidant, Bose Osinowo, said each passing day brought with it living memory of her elder brother who she described as one who could not hurt a fly and a kid-hearted person’.Bose Osinowo, a Lagos socialite and Managing Director of B.O. Oil and Gas Limited said the entire family is yet to terms with the reality that is was no more.
She said that the shocking demise of the astute politician has left an indelible mark in his extended family.Said she, “It is a sad experience for me and the entire Osinowo family last year when the news filtered in that he was dead. As a matter of fact, no one in the family is yet to get out of the shock.
“For anyone that knew him or came in close contact with him, his amiable and philanthropic gestures can hardly be forgotten. I missed him and I will forever missed him indeed,” she said.He was a four-term member of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The late lawmaker was elected into the Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on February 23, during the last general elections.Until his death, he served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Industry, and Investment.
The late senator was a native of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. He was the Ogun State Youth Chairman of the National Party of Nigeria in the Second Republic, in 1979. He was a four-term lawmaker (from 2003 – 2019) representing Kosofe Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly.He served as chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Lands and Housing for 11 years.
He held a Diploma in Building Technology at the Instituto per Geometri, Rome, Italy. He also studied Italian Language.
He also held a Masters’ Degree in Mass Communication from the Urbaniana University in Rome, Italy, He was married with three children, two of them medical doctors.
To emerge as the Lagos East senatorial zone candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the party’s primaries in 2019, he polled 247,743 votes to defeat the incumbent senator, Gbenga Ashafa, who got 20,385 votes.
He was more popularly known as Pepper or Pepperito. He was also known as Unifier and Stabiliser. He was first nicknamed Pepper Eyes while in secondary school due to his red eyeballs. It was later shortened to Pepper.
