The lawmaker representing Enugu North senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Chukwuka Utazi, has commended the Federal Government for the approval of N120.7billion for key projects across the country, which included the Omo-Umulokpa-Nkpologu Road.
He also tasked the government on quick disbursement of approved fund to ensure timely delivery of these projects for the benefit of the populace.
Utazi stated this on Thursday, while reacting to yesterday’s approval of the sum of N120.7billion by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for various projects across states in the federation. One of the approved projects was the Omor -Umulokpa-Nkpologu Road in Anambra and Enugu states at the cost of N1.712 billion.
The lawmaker said the Omo-Umulokpa-Nkpologu Road was of critical importance to the people of Enugu and Anambra states and thanked the Minister of Works, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, for being considerate and large-hearted in seeing the entire country as his constituency, especially in the choice and award of projects.
According to Utazi, the Minister has demonstrated sufficient zeal to address the challenges of road infrastructure across the country.
The Senator said he repeatedly brought up the issue of dilapidated Omo-Umulokpa-Nkpologu Road, as well as Nsukka-Obimo-Nkpologu-Nimbo-Adani-Anambra Border Road before the National Assembly and, expressed joy that such constructive engagements have yielded the desired result.
He expressed hope that the Nsukka-Obimo-Nkpologu-Nimbo-Adani-Anambra Border Road would soon get the required approval because of its strategic importance to the huge agricultural investments in ADARICE Farms in Enugu State and Ayamelum LGA of Anambra State.
He also said the construction of the road would encourage large scale production and transportation of rice from the agrarian communities.
The lawmaker had at the 2021 budget debate at the National Assembly, appealed to the Federal Ministry of Finance to ensure timely release of fund approved for critical projects across the country, noting that the completion of these projects would impact positively on the people and the nation’s economy.
He specifically mentioned 5 dams, including the Adada Dam, chosen for completion last year by the Minister of Water Resources but their progress have been stymied by funding.
