By Ephraim Oseji

THE member of the House of Representatives for Atisbo/Saki East/Saki West Federal Constituency of Oyo State, Honourable Olajide Olatunbosun, has called on sports journalists to give more priority to the promotion of indigenous sports in the interest of national development.

Olatunbosun made the call in a message as the special guest of honour at the 2019 Ramadan lecture of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo State chapter, held last weekend at the Media Center, Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

The lawmaker stressed the need for SWAN members to showcase the potential in local sporting activities as stakeholders in the Nigerian project.

He implored Nigerians, especially Muslims, to intensify prayers during the holy month of Ramadan for the nation and its leaders, especially President Muhammadu Buhari and the incoming leadership of the ninth National Assembly to overcome all challenges and steer the country to enviable heights.

Hon. Olatunbosun, who highlighted some of his first-tenure achievements to include facilitation of many road projects, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) FM station at Saki, rehabilitation of schools and empowerment programmes for people in his constituency, promised to deliver more dividends of good representation in the next four years.

The Ramadan lecture, entitled “Sports and National Development: The Islamic Perspective,” delivered byImam Tirimisiyu Ishola, was well attended by people from all walks of life.
