EIGHT persons are to be subpoenaed to testify in Ovia Federal Constituency petition, which hearing will commence on May 24 before Edo Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Benin City, Edo State.

Counsel to parties in the petition by Omosede Igbinedion agreed on this at the conclusion of the pre-trial on the petition, yesterday.

The eight persons are part of the 144 witnesses that will testify in the petition challenging the victory of Mr Dennis Idahosa for Ovia Federal Constituency election.

While the first respondent (Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC), will subpoena one person, second and third respondents, Dennis Idahosa and All Progressives Congress, APC,  will call five and two persons respectively.

Counsel to the petitioner, Mr Kingsley Obamogie, said the petitioner will present 71 witnesses and is challenging results in 71 polling units in the federal constituency.

The tribunal chairman, Justice O. Ogundana, announced May 24 as of the date for the commencement of hearing proper, adding that the tribunal may sit on Saturdays when necessary.

He also said to save time, all objections should be indicated in the course of the trial and would be addressed in the final written addresses.

Justice Ogundana allocated 14 days each, for the council to conclude the examination of their witnesses.
