ENUGU—GOVERNORSHIP campaign council of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ebonyi State has distanced itself from statements credited to its Director General, Senator Anthony Agbo.

Agbo in a media report was quoted to have lashed on the governorship candidate of the APC in Ebonyi State, Senator Sonni Ogbuoji, whom Agbo accused of masterminding the abysmal performance of the APC in the last governorship election in the state.

However, two members of the campaign council, Aro Nweke and Paul Okorie have replied Agbo’s statement, saying the failure of the party in the election is the making of the campaign DG himself.

They  said the DG has no right or power to speak for the entire body without their mandate.

“Agbo is the DG of the body but not the body. If he has spoken and said he spoke for himself, that would be acceptable. But for him to go to the public and make statements attributed to the council without the consent of the body actually questions his reputation and the role he played in what actually resulted in the poor performance of the party,” both Nweke and Okorie said.

They clarified that the campaign council met in Enugu where the issue arose that the council should make its position known on what transpired during the election, but that the meeting concluded that since Agbo mooted readiness to prepare the statement, he should do so after another meeting for all members to make their inputs and deliver same to Senator Ogbuoji first and later, to party elders before it goes public.
