President Buhari delivers Keynote address at the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa in Amman Jordan on 6th April 2019
Abuja – The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) on Thursday lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for regular and prompt payment of pensions.
The NUP’s President, Mr Abel Afolayan made the commendation at a one-day interactive forum for pensioners from the North Central Zone in Abuja.
The forum was organised by the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) to interact with ‘senior citizens’ on the progress made so far and to find ways to addressing challenges confronting pension administration.
Afolayan said that over the years pensioners in the country never had it so good.
“In my 29th year as a pensioner, frankly speaking, we have never had it so good like this.
” We wish to register our profound gratitude to Mr President. We appreciate you, we love you and we are with you.
“Even during recession, this government remained committed to paying us regularly even our arrears.
“Once again, I will like to congratulate President Buhari for his re election for the next four years. We hope he will continue to stand by us” he said.
Afolayan said before this government took over in 2015, the Federal Government Civil Service Pensioners were owed 42 months in pensions.
He noted that PTAD under the leadership of Sharon Ikeazor had also done so much in ensuring prompt payment of pensions as well as arrears.
He urged PTAD to address some hiccups causing delays in the payment of pensions.
