Concerned citizens and representatives of the National Eastern Mandate, NEM, have called on President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to zone leadership positions to qualified members of the party from the South-East zone, to acknowledge their effort and also to prevent the contravention of Section 14(3) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
While congratulating President Buhari on his victory in the last presidential election, the group noted that more easterners voted for him in 2019 than at any other time since 2003. They reminded him of his victory speech where he stated that he would run an inclusive government, saying that “a committed and loyal ranking APC Senator from the Eastern zone should be considered for leadership in the interest of political unity and stability in the nation.
In a release made available to Vanguard, the group called on the chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, to “resist all pressure and ensure that all who were declared winners (not under duress) by INEC are issued their Certificates of Return without further delay.”
