WARRI—The Olu of Warri, His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, has inaugurated members of Board of Directors/Advisory Council of the proposed University of Warri, Obitugbo, in Warri North Local Government Area.
Speaking at the ceremony in his palace in Warri, the Itsekiri monarch called on all Itsekiri to unite to ensure the success of the university, promising to give the university project all his support.
His words: “ The plans for Warri University did not start today. But at God’s own time the project has taken off. Itsekiri should unite to build the university. Those inaugurated should do their best to build the university.’’
The monarch, who is to serve as the Visitor and Chancellor of the university, thanked members of the various bodies for accepting the responsibilities, adding that they should not hesitate to draw his attention to issues that may require his intervention.
“I am very happy with the quality of members. It is certain the university will be a huge success.’’
Earlier, Coordinator of the Planning/Implementation Programmes of the proposed university, Professor Jim Omatseye said the university would take off with a campus in Koko, headquarters of Warri North Local Government Area until its permanent site billed for Obitugbo in the same is constructed.”
“We have a take off campus to start the university in Koko, headquarters of Warri North Local Government Area. Olu will be the Chancellor and the Visitor.”
