By EKAETTE BASSEY

“The importance of music cannot be overemphasized; it is sixth dimensional. As a universal language, it feeds the soul by appealing to the real inner self, giving the type of joy and satisfaction that virtually nothing else can give.”

These were the words of Bolaji Charles Mendes, convener of the maiden edition of Popo Aguda Easter music and drama concert.

Tagged ‘Going back to our roots’, the epoch-making event, scheduled to hold on Easter Sunday, at the Brazilian Quarters, Popo Aguda, Lagos Island, promises to be an experience to remember for a long time.

According to Mendes, “It is our desire to give back joy, relaxation, comradeship and self-fulfillment to the historical community we love so much. That is why we’re featuring great musicians who are related to our origin, cutting across age brackets such as Jimi Solanke, contemporary Yinka Alakija and Prime Qwest Band, Gboyega Adelaja, Jesse Buga, amongst others. We’re equally presenting our Lagos Brazilian cultures by bringing in the Lagos State University (LASU) Drama Group, Eko Samba Group and the Exclusive Popo Aguda Meboi Group (The Bull) to do justice to the drama and cultural aspect of Lagos State and our Popo Aguda community.”

Mendes assured that adequate security measures have been taken to ensure the safety of lives and property of all invited guests and visitors.
