OWERRI—Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has kicked against what it called “illegal establishments, upgrading of institutions, looting of government property and backdating of employments,” by the outgoing Rochas Okorocha administration in the state.
The state PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Damian Opara, expressed the party’s position in a press statement at the weekend, in Owerri.
“The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party, Imo State Chapter, has been drawn to the recent pronouncements by the outgoing Governor of Imo State, Chief Rochas Okorocha, concerning the purported establishments and upgrading of certain institutions in the state.
“They include the College of Education, Ihitte-Uboma; Imo State Polytechnic, Ehime Mbano; Imo State University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Ngor Okpala/Aboh Mbaise; Imo State University, Faculty of Engineering, Onuimo; Imo State Polytechnic, Orlu Campus (TESAC); Imo State College of Education, Ohaji/Egbema, and the purported appointment of heads of these non-existing institutions at the twilight of his administration.”
The PDP urged Imo people to disregard such pronouncements, pointing out that “such pronouncements have no basis in law and may have been done in the usual practice of the outgoing governor, without due processes.”
The PDP further noted that just a few weeks to the end of Okorocha’s administration, “he has employed more workers than he had ever done during the eight years he wasted as the governor of Imo State”.
The party alleged that Okorocha employed and backdated letters of employments given to individuals who hitherto had no service to render to the state ministries, agencies and parastatals.
“In one agency alone, the managing director purportedly employed 300 persons in the guise of doing surveillance duties and backdated their employment letters. The above scenario has been going on virtually in all government establishments across the state, including state owned tertiary institutions. The looting of government property has been going on daily. Government vehicles have been auctioned at give-away prices and property worth millions of naira that belongs to Imo people have been carted away”, the PDP alleged.
While viewing the above actions of Governor Okorocha as “immoral, criminal, unwarranted, unlawful and laden with evil intentions”, the party also reiterated that “the incoming PDP administration under Emeka Ihedioha shall do the needful by making sure that these illegal actions of Governor Okorocha are reversed.”
