ENUGU—ENUGU State lawmakers have passed into law, the bill seeking to eliminate Violence Against Persons, VAPP, and other related matters.

The bill which was a private member bill, meant to eliminate all forms of violence against persons for both public and private lives, was sponsored by Chukwuka Eneh representing Udi South.
The bill which was a House Bill No. 15, 2017, yesterday, scaled through the third reading and was therefore passed into law.
Commending his colleagues for passing the bill, Speaker of the House, Hon. Edward Ubosi said that the bill was the first bill they were passing into law after the 2019 electioneering period.
“I want to thank you in a special way. This is the first bill we are passing into law after the 2019 general elections.
“It is a wonderful bill that will curtail excesses in our society especially in the rural areas.
“People are taking laws into their hands and this bill will curtail them,” Ubosi said, while appraising the importance of the bill.
Sponsor of the bill, Eneh, in his submission before the bill was passed into law posited that the bill would eliminate violence against private and public lives, physical, sexual, psychological, domestic, harmful traditional practices and discrimination against persons.
He said that it would also provide maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishment to offenders and other matter related there with.
