ENUGU- All Progressives Congress, APC, Senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South constituency, Prince Nwaeze Onu has petitioned the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Army Staff over an alleged assassination attempt on him during the last National Assembly elections.

In the petition, Onu accused Governor Dave Umahi of using fake and real security personnel, including thugs to unleash mayhem on him, which almost resulted to assassination on him.

Onu contended that both the police and army deployed to Ebonyi state for the election, failed to protect him from harm which he alleged Governor Umahi unleashed on him.

He said the Governor’s aides rained blows on him, just like “the Governor also ordered his thugs in the following words- ‘kill him, nothing will happen, even the Chief of Army Staff is in my pocket.”

Onu urged both security institutions to treat the matter with all seriousness it deserves, since he had before the incident written to the commissioner of Police in Ebonyi state, without any result.

Reacting to the allegation in the petition, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Umahi, Mr. Emmanuel Uzor said that “The governor was on routine inspection during the day when suddenly a gunshot was heard around the area. He was with the DPO of Uburu, his security details and some Soldiers and they decided to know what was happening.

“On getting there, they discovered that he (Onu) was held hostage by some thugs who apparently wanted money from him over the failed election.

“So they decided to rescue him and took him to the police station. It has nothing to do with the governor. It is unfortunate that he is now claiming that he was attacked by the same people that rescued him.”
