OBIARUKU—UKWUANI Social Improvement League, USIL, yesterday, urged the Federal Government to take urgent steps to disarm killer herdsmen operating in Ndokwa communities, Delta State, saying the people could not continue to come under attack by those who claim to be cattle rearers.

USIL, in a statement by its Chairman, Mr. Chidi O. Uwabuofu said: “Government’s fundamental role is to protect the lives and property of its citizens and to ensure that they don’t live in fear while going about their daily businesses. Any government which fails in this very regard could be termed anti-people or a government that has lost its focus.

“The frequent killing of our farmers, the decimation of their farmlands and products by killer herdsmen are becoming increasingly worrisome.

“Just a few days ago, specifically on April 9, 2019, three of our hardworking youths from Owah-Abbi in Ukwuani LGA were gunned down on their way to their respective farms by herdsmen.”
