Owerri—NO fewer than 10 persons were   arrested by Imo policemen in  Umuohunma, Ezuofoke community of Umunna in Onuimo Local Government Area Of Imo State, following the murder of an 18-year old lady, Ulumma Ekwebelem.

Vanguard gathered yesterday in Owerri that despite reports that a known suspect, one Chibuzor  Alaneme, was allegedly responsible for the the murder, the police went on rampage in the community, arresting anyone on sight.

However, relatives of those arrested and taken to the Imo State police headquarters in Owerri at 06:15pm on Wednesday, told Vanguard that those arrested had nothing to do with the murder case.

One of them who did not want his name mentioned   said: “The police came before 7:00am, Thursday  and arrested about 10 people. The thing happened in such a way that everybody started running. We are not happy it is a murder issue that happened but we want the police to do their investigation well and let the person face the law. Arresting people who have nothing in connection with the incident is not good.”

At the time of filing this report, Vanguard   gathered that they were still battling to convince the Imo police   to see if those arrested would be granted bail.

It should be recalled that  the deceased is said to be a fiancee to Chibuzor and both have dated for years. The root cause of the death of Ulumma has   been weaved round the issue of sexuality.

When Vanguard called the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Orlando Ikeokwu, to confirm the development,  he said: “To cut it short, I am not in town and I have not been briefed of any  such thing.”
