THE Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the Anambra State House of Assembly Service Commission.

The Commission would, among others things, formulate and implement guidelines for its functions, appoint all officers in the service of the House of Assembly and have disciplinary control over persons holding and acting in such offices.

When assented to by the governor, the House Services Committee would grant total autonomy to the House of Assembly.

Chairman House Committee on Services, Mr. Boniface Okonkwo congratulated his colleagues for their painstaking efforts in the passage of the bill, recalling that several attempts were made in the past to pass the, bill but all to no avail.

Also contributing, the chairman of House Committee of Judiciary, Mr. Chugbo Enwezor, said members of the sixth Assembly would go down in history for making a frantic effort in strengthening the legislative institution in the state.

The Speaker of the House, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu, who assured that there would be no conflict between the state legislature and the Commission, promised that the bill would be transmitted to the  governor for assent without delay.
