There is usually unholy connivance between builders and some government agents on the one hand, and incompetence on part of builders. The government should be more interested in the quality of buildings. Also, many of the dilapidated buildings must be examined in the spirit and tenets of urban renewal. Where they need to be pulled down they should not hesitate to do so.
Mr. Julius Adegunna
Building engineers have a role to play as regards incessant building collapse in the sense that they oversee the work from the foundation till completion. However, some buildings did not pass through qualified hands while others were not well managed and this may have resulted in building collapse. All hands must be on neck.
Mr.Oladapo Adewole Apprentice
Where are structural engineers when most buildings were improperly planned? Some buildings lack adequate supervision while others are faulty from the foundation. Also, we should not forget to mention the use of substandard materials when talking about incessant building collapse. The authorities concerned should do the needful to avoid loss of lives. Mrs. Okonji Esther Self-employed
The first thing to be considered is the topography and the second is the mixture of building materials before the building commences. Next is to ensure professionals are at work because building quacks are doing more harm than good.
Other factors are hasty job and haphazard foundation. Moreso, the use of developers should be discouraged.
Mr. Monday Nwabueze Welder
High quality and adequate materials should be used . Officials should go round construction sites on inspection and not to extort money from builders.
Qualified persons should closely monitor and supervise the jobs which shouldn’t be rushed. Periodic testing of the building should be carried out to ascertain the quality. Builders should avoid conversion of building from one storey to two or more.
There should be periodic maintenance of all buildings . Mr Adebisi Samson
Incessant building collapse across the country has become a thing of great concern because the builders are not obeying the rules of building and the government is not doing enough to checkmate this. It is high time the authority concerned stepped up actions on this and make the builders to obey the standard rules of building so as avoid continuous loss of lives.
