With only a few days to the 2019 Warri/Effurun Peace Marathon, quite a number of national elite athletes have signified their intentions to race for the top prize of the race billed for March 30 in Warri, Delta State.
The 10km race originally meant for athletes and fun runners within the Warri environs have continued to attract national athletes even as organisers shop for funds to make it bigger and attractive in terms of prize money.
Athletics Federation of Nigeria secretary, Adamu Elisha disclosed yesterday that several national athletes have registered for the race and are eagerly looking forward to participating, and grabbing the N300,000 top prize in both the men and women categories.
One of the athletes who have confirmed her participation is the “queen of Nigerian long distance” Deborah Pam of Plateau State.
“We are glad the Warri/Effurun Peace marathon is another opportunity for us to compete and earn some money. For sure we are looking forward to running,” said the petite athlete.
