A group, under the umbrella of Babajide Sanwo-Olu Independent Campaign Group, BOS-ICG, in Diapora, has called on electorate in Lagos State to come out en-masse in the Governorship and House of Assembly elections scheduled for March 9th, 2019 and vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidates, particularly Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the next Lagos governor.
Prince Lukman Ajasa-Oluwa, coordinator of the group, made the call during a door-to door rally on Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Surulere Local Government Areas, of the state, as part of the on-going campaign to canvass votes for Sanwo-olu and other APC candidates in the poll. The group commenced the rally from Odunlami Street, CMS, Oke Kofo and other environs.
Ajasa–Oluwa disclosed that over 500 members of the group armed with their Permanent Voter’s Card, PVC, were drawn from countries like, United States of America, USA, United Kingdom, UK, Germany, Ireland, France, among others.
Other members of the group included: Mr. Tayo Shodeinde, Chairman APC Lagos UK, Taiwo Jegamah, Women Leader, APC Lagos UK ,Engr, Seriki Treasure APC Lagos UK ,Prince Allen Okunnu, ICG USA ,Alhaja Fasinro Akeem ICG USA.
He exp[lainec that it became expedient for members to storm Lagos for the governorship poll following low turn-out of voters at the presidential and National Assembly polls which he said if repeated could undermine the chances of APC, hence, the coming back home of residents abroad to perform their civic rights.
According to him, “The turn out in the last poll was abysmally low. Most people in the neighbourhood with PVCs didn’t come out to vote. Lagos has about 5 million registered voters but the turn-out was about a million or two, it ,means 3.5 voters were sitting at home.
“This is very sad, that is why we in diaspora, from USA, UK, Germany, Italy, name it, decided to come back home to Lagos to exercise our franchise and the people that live beside polling booth refuse to leave the house.
“This is one of the reasons why we have decided to come down to Lagos and encourage our people to come out and vote for Sanwo-Olu. The turn- out must increase, we can’t allow charlatans to take over Lagos, God forbid, it cannot happen.
“The population of Lagos is over 22 million people, there is nothing wrong having over 5 million voters, therefore, every voter must come out on March 9th, 2019, and perform their civic rights by voting for Sanwo-Olu, Dr. Hamzat ticket for continued infrastructural development and welfare of citizenry in the state. There is no alternative to APC in Lagos and we could only achieve this by coming out to vote. Adequate security has been provided to ensure safety of lives and property.
“From the aged to retirees, young, male and females must all come out and participate for our future generation. This is reality. If we in Diaspora could come down home, it behoves on residents here to come out and vote. This is an inclusive government that will carry every resident along, irrespective of class, ethnic, religion, sex.”
