LEADERS in Akoko area of Ondo State, under the auspices of Akoko Development Group (ADG), yesterday, condemned the spate of violence that characterised the last elections in which lives were lost.
Some persons were killed while many others were injured and properties worth millions of naira destroyed during the House of Assembly elections.
A communique issued by the group and signed by its President and General Secretary, Dr Shaba and Mr. Remi Omosowon respectively, expressed displeasure over the invasion of the council area of the state by thugs.
The group said the action of politicians fuelled the crisis in the community, noting: “The peace enjoyed by residents was disrupted, leading to the killing of people while property worth millions of Naira were destroyed during the ugly incident.”
It described the action of politicians as “a deliberate attempt to prevent residents of the community from electing the leaders of their choice.”
The group appealed to politicians from the area to play the game by the rule, noting that their “action falls below accepted norms of behavior both locally and internationally”
They called on parents to orientate their wards on the need to embrace peace and avoid act of violence and being used by desperate politicians for their selfish interest during election.
